Rotary Forest - Earth Day Tree Planting - Sat. April 23
Join Wellington Water Watchers' tree-planting team as we lend a hand to the Rotary Club of Guelph's ambitious 13 year endeavour to plant 60,000 native trees on 100 acres of farmland! Trees and forests are wonderful and invaluable to our communities - they capture and trap carbon from the air, stop soil erosion after heavy rains, clean water before it is released into our water supply, cool the air, and produce oxygen! Water for Life, Blue Ribbon Day - Sat. April 23
Join SaveOurWater as we launch the Water for Life blue ribbon campaign.
- Buy a blue ribbon for your front door or tree
- Decorate a banner
- Check out or purchase some local water art
- Make water friends, meet water allies
- Write a postcard to "Tell Kathleen Wynne to say NO to Nestle and the Middlebrook well".
- Enjoy face painting and performers (musicians and Bubbleology show 3:00 pm)

Aquifer Defence Fund
Wellington Water Watchers and SaveOurWater.CA have partnered to form The Aquifer Defence Fund. This fund is designed to raise much needed funds to be used for the technical advice and professional support required to evaluate and prepare to oppose potential Permit to Take Water applications by Nestle Waters. Nestle Waters Canada is in the process of evaluating the Middlebrook well for purchase and intends to apply to take up to 1.6M litres of water per day which would give them a total of 6.4M litres of water a day they could pump in Wellington County.
Your donation to the Aquifer Defence Fund will allow us to:
- Conduct independent technical studies
- Contract legal expertise
- Sound the alarm around communities when water is threatened

2Rivers Festival May and June 2016

The 2Rivers Festival is kicking off in less than a month! We are looking forward to 16 days of events through May and June to celebrate the Speed and Eramosa Rivers!
On May 7th or 8th, join the Yorklands Green Hub for a "Restoration and Rejuvenation Walk" of the Guelph Correctional Centre grounds. Rain or shine, walk with us and hear about the amazing history of this heritage site and future plans for the Yorklands Green Hub, a vision for a leading environmental science centre! The following weekend on Saturday, May 14th will be International Birding Day Walk with Nature Guelph. Bird life is particularly active where land and water meet, we invite you to come see this for yourself! We will keep you posted in the coming newsletters of more 2Rivers Festival events!

Nature Along Our Banks

Birds are returning from their southerly wintering grounds and have started nesting! Watch for Canada geese along the river who have made their nests and started to brood their eggs! Many birds are adding their voices to nature's orchestra! Grackles, starlings, robins, cardinals, and others can be heard throughout Guelph as they raise their voices in song to the renewal of spring! Watch for the big and little brown bats as they emerge from hibernation and begin to fly about your yard on mild evenings. Soon, the females will move to nursery sites. Yellow-bellied sapsuckers, a medium-sized black and white woodpecker, are arriving and they will be drumming to establish territory and attract mates. Listen for one drumming on your aluminum downspout at 5:30am! Nature's alarm clock!
