Opportunities

Become a Water Ambassador:

Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer experience? Are you interested in strengthening your own knowledge about our watershed and in turn passing on this valuable teaching to school-aged kids? Are you interested in being part of a program designed to foster a new generation of water stewards?

We have a position for you!

We are currently recruiting and training volunteers to become our Wellington Water Watcher  “Water Ambassadors” for the in-school delivery of our Message in the Bottle program. To learn more about the program, click here.

Volunteer Requirements:

If you are interested in becoming a Water Ambassador, we have the following requirements:

a) Police check: Because our Message in the Bottle program is being delivered in schools, the School Board has a requirement that all volunteers have a police check. This is a free service from the OPP office if you are requesting a check for volunteering purposes. It can take up to two weeks to have the check completed, so please consider getting this done right away. Bring two pieces of ID (Health card, drivers license, SIN card or a passport) with you to 15 Wyndham on the following days:
Wednesdays 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Thursdays 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

b) A brief written submission (less than 100 words) why you are interested in this volunteer position and what experience you have with kids. Email to wellingtonwaterwatchers@gmail.com

c) A general idea of your availability. We are booking one school a day (Tuesday – Friday) for every week through to the end of March (except for Holidays).

We will be hosting a training session to certify our Water Ambassadors at 10 Carden St. Downtown Guelph. Only one session is required so please indicate which date is preferable to you:
Friday November 20 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Tuesday November 24 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Beyond this training session, we will have each Water Ambassador observe our School Coordinator for a morning and then be leading with assistance in the afternoon. We ask that each volunteer be able to lead independently on at least two additional days. If you are available to lead independently for more than two days, you would be greatly welcomed to do so.

For further information and to apply, please email to wellingtonwaterwatchers@gmail.com

Thank You!!!!
