WATERSHED 2020 EVALUATION SURVEY

Thanks for participating in the Watershed 2020 event! We think it was a very successful event, but we would love to know what you think.

Your feedback will help us to strengthen our efforts and organize even better events in the future, and it will be valuable too for learning about on-line community organizing.

Background and purposes of this evaluation

You may recall that Watershed 2020 was an event of the "People’s Water Campaign", which is being organized by the Wellington Water Watchers (WWW) with the aim of setting agenda for Ontario that ensures that "Water is for Life, not for Profit." In addition to providing WWW with valuable feedback on the Watershed 2020 event, this evaluation is also part of a study aimed at drawing lessons the various activities of the Peoples' Water Campaign about the opportunities, limitations, and outcomes associated with on-line community organizing. Our hope is to generate insights from this experience that might inform future attempts to use digital tools and strategies in environmental and social justice advocacy.

The study is being led by Dr. Robert Case (Social Development Studies, Renison University College, Waterloo) and Dr. Andrea Muelebach (Anthropology, University of Toronto, Mississauga), along with a team of researchers associated with the Wellington Water Watchers (Guelph, Ontario) and Renison University College (Waterloo, Ontario).

Results from this evaluation survey will be used by WWW to inform future on-line events and organizing efforts, and will also be combined with other data that is being collected by the research team to learn what we can about the opportunities and limitations of on-line community organizing/campaigning that are revealed through WWW's efforts. Entitled "The Peoples' Water Campaign: Case Study of Civil Society Adaptation to Physical Distancing" this study involves 40 interviews with water advocates from all around Ontario, most of which were conducted in July and August 2020, and a review of social media trends related to the Peoples' Water Campaign.
