Wellington Water Watchers has obtained a legal opinion setting out a clear roadmap to establish a right to safe drinking water that will stop new water taking permits in areas of high aquifer vulnerability, restricting commercial land uses to agricultural and dry use industrial.

A component of the strategy includes proposing a Bill to “Establish a Right To Safe Drinking Water” and seek amendments to the Ontario Water Resources Act to prohibit commercial water taking for bottling. Wellington Water Watchers will consult broadly on this Bill beginning in the new year and seek all party support for introduction of the Bill to the Ontario legislature.

The agenda for the Thursday December 13th meeting will include

  • Presentation and discussion of the legal road map
  • Presentation and discussion of the draft Bill to “Establish a Right To Safe Drinking Water” and prohibit commercial water bottling in Ontario
  • Plans to consult with communities on the draft Bill

Doors Open at 6:30 for snacks and refreshments (please bring a pot luck contribution to snacks)

Meeting begins 7:00 pm.
